Latest Updates from Our Project:

Update 7 - Backerkit Surveys and You
5 days ago – Thu, Oct 29, 2026 at 10:21:55 AM

We finished! And WHAT a finish! Thank you all for spreading the word and helping us bring mugfulls of cozy whimsy to many D&D tables! This is the BIGGEST D&D Kickstarter Loot Tavern has ever been part of and the 2nd BIGGEST of all time!

Did.. we really just raise... $4.9M…?

This update goes over the final stretch goals, what to expect in your Backerkit Survey, deluxe cover upgrades, switching pledge level in Backerkit, and estimated shipping/taxes. This is the last

ALL Stretch Goals Unlocked

We did it! We unlocked the secret stretch goal and the final Pie in the Sky stretch goal.

Secret Goal - $4,360,638 - Maker Subclass

In the Mythozoology project (by D&D Shorts and Loot Tavern), they introduced a new class—the Maker. This class lies somewhere between Artificer and Fighter; you first choose a 'project' from among Arms, Chassis, Head, Locomotion, Turret, and Viscera—this defines your fighting style! You also gain more projects as you level up. For example, choosing Arms and Chassis sets you up as a tanky melee brawler, while Head and Turret let you play as an ultra aware ranged combatant that can identify its oppnonent's weaknesses.

Blueprints. With each level you get an additional blueprint point that you can spend to apply 'blueprints' to these projects. Blueprints are modular upgrades (kind of like Eldritch Invocations) targeted at honing in on one playstyle. A blueprint might give your Arms more reach, add armour to your Chassis, give you a damage resistance when improving your Viscera, improve your Locomotion's base speed, let your Turret make a flaming AoE, or give your Head Detect Magic at will.

Subclasses. Subclasses give a few unique blueprints and some baseline passive effects. They also define the materials that your improvements are made from for flavour purposes. For example, in line with Wild Hearth's Necromancer, the unlocked Osteocrafter subclass will make everything from bones. This will be it's own PDF given to everyone who gets any of the two core PDFs from this campaign.

Pie in the Sky #4 - $4,800,000 - Animated Adventure

We're commissioning another animated video to finish the story set out in the intro video! Will the cooking contestants beat the alt-dragon-wyvern-chimera-thing? I'm sure there's a name but only Pointy Hat knows it, and he's still resting (thank goodness!)

This will be freely available to the world on YouTube! They can all thank you guys for making it happen!

Backerkit Surveys and You.

Backerkit is an online software called a ‘Pledge Manager’. It is where we manage all the data to make sure everyone gets everything they want. We create a survey through Backerkit that lets you enter your shipping information, upgrade book covers, choose your VTT platform, add on other products, and confirm if you want to receive any eligible bonus rewards (like early backer dice and Pointy Hat Minis)!

The backerkit survey is coming in Early November! A link will be sent to the email address associated with your Kickstarter account; click this link to go to Backerkit where you'll make an account (or log in if you have one already).

We’ll do another update to let y’all know that the survey links have been sent. If you don’t see it, check your junk folder. If you still don’t see it… Did you sign up using Apple’s “hide my email” feature? If so, bad backer 🗞️! That’s likely the culprit, and you’ll need to contact us directly (see the options at the end of this update).

Backerkit Support. For Backerkit-specific enquiries, they have their own customer support.

Missing Payments. If your payment didn't go through on Kickstarter, don't worry! You’ll be able to update payment information and confirm the products in your basket on Backerkit.

Pay Over Time. If you select the pay over time option on Kickstarter, you will receive your surveys once the final payment is made!

Smoke Test. In order to make sure everything is working, we'll run a "smoke test" sometime next week. That's where we take a very small number of backers at random and send them the survey early just to make sure everything is working. When we hear back from those random users that everything is running smoothly, we’ll send the survey out to everybody!

Working on harvesting the First wave of BETA test materials! Currently on track for a January release!

Missing Rewards? If you think you should have been eligible for one of the free rewards (like early backer dice or the Pointy Hat Minis), please reach out to ChefTinyT on the Loot Tavern Discord server. Only reach out after you have received your survey from backerkit which is coming sometime in mid November.

Alchemist Trove - early backer dice, also available as a Backerkit addon.

Deluxe Cover Upgrades

Shiny!

When you get to the pledge manager on Backerkit, you’ll be able to upgrade things. For the Dual Book, Game-Ready, Penta Book, and Core Bundle tiers, you can choose foil-embossed Deluxe covers (shown above) for none, one, or both of the RfH / BfA books.

For those who love the core cover art!

Deluxe and All-in Core Covers. Here's how this works: If you backed at the Deluxe / All-in tiers, you'll have options in your survey to choose between which covers you would like. The price will remain the same but you’ll have a couple of options as seen below. You can keep your deluxe book covers, choose one of the core covers, or get double core covers! All you need to do is decide which option is best for you!

Looking to Switch your Pledge Level?

If you'd like to change your pledge tier all together you can do so in Backerkit! Simply click 'Switch your Pledge Level' and choose the tier you would like to upgrade to! See the graphic below. NOTE: it is advisable to only move up pledge levels as your payment on Kickstarter will be more than the amount for lower tiers pledges and you may have unallocated funds left over.

Follow the arrow to switch your pledge level!

Shipping and Addresses

Charging. Shipping and taxes will be charged once the project is close to fulfilling in around 18-24 months. For a breakdown of estimated shipping charges, you can check out this graphic. We’ll remind you of all these charges about 2-4 weeks before we charge them. To get a total cost estimate, add your country’s sales tax to the estimated shipping to your country.

Sales Tax. For the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, sales tax (VAT/GST) will be collected on Backerkit and remitted to the relevant government (like a normal shop in those countries). For other countries, we don’t collect or pay any import/sales tax—you may have to pay for those on receipt of the goods. Please consult your government’s website for more info.

NOTE: We might fall under the threshold for Aus & NZ sales tax. If so, we will not collect it. We'll let y'all know know if this is the case closer to fulfilment.

Address Changes. Thinking you might move? Wild Hearth is expected to fulfill in Q2 of 2028. Closer to that time, we'll send out reminders asking you to update your address if you have moved. Don't sweat it until then, there's plenty of time to update if your address changes!

Need Help?

If you have any questions you can reach us through our email, where the Loot Tavern Team will get back to you in no later than two business days. An even better way to reach us is the #wh-ks-questions channel of the Loot Tavern Discord Server, where answers are usually less than a day away.

Thanks,

Max, Antonio, and the LT team

Update 6 - The Final Countdown
15 days ago – Mon, Oct 19, 2026 at 08:13:29 AM

Hey folks, we’re almost done!

We raised how much!? OMG!

This update takes a quick look at the final stretch goals we’ve smashed through.

Expanded Freebies

The party is complete! The free minis are expanded to include the Hat's two allies, the orc and the mandragora. Are they named? Only the human familiar knows, and he's too busy doing a livestream RIGHT NOW to tell us. Go bug him for their names.

Moar minis!

If you have any physical item in your basket (literally any), you'll have the option to add the FOUR minis to their order for $0—free! If you don't have any physical rewards, don't fear, backers who have at least one digital reward selected will get the STL for both minis! Print it at home or send it to your favourite print-on-demand company if/when you decide you want it.

Stretch Goals

Golem Species - $3.6M

Will you be made of stone, pottery, or something more gruesome in this construct subrace!? Added to (probably) Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes.

Beauty Domain - Cleric Subclass - $3.8M

Beauty is truth, and truth is beauty in this new cleric subclass centring around beautification, empowerment, and control. Included in a book, most likely Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes.

Rest, Respite, and Restaurants - $4.0M

The third Pie in the Sky stretch goal! This augments Formula for Seasons to have a bunch of inns, restaurants, and spas with unique monster meals and rest boons. Included in the Game-ready+ tiers!

SECRET Stretch Goals

What’s this, a whole new stretch goal at a seemingly random number…: $4,360,638. That couldn’t be… the exact total D&D Shorts’ Mythozoology hit could it!?

Osteocrafter Maker Subclass - $4.360638M

It sure is! To celebrate absolutely destroying D&D Shorts, we’re collaborating with him to bring a new subclass to the Maker, a class introduced in this book. The maker augments their body with things they make, and this maker will use BONES as its medium, like a little Necromancer that can’t do real magic.

Obviously we love both Will & Mythozoology and this is all tongue in cheek =P. This will be released as a standalone PDF to everyone who gets either Wild Hearth PDF!

Pie in the Sky IV - $ ?.??M

At an undisclosed value that is definitely not going to be the final number we hit, we will unlock the FINAL stretch goal of the campaign! An animated ending to the intro video, released for FREE to the WORLD!

Pointy Hat is announcing this goal on his live stream RIGHT NOW!

Pledge Manager & Help

Shortly after the Kickstarter campaign concludes, we’ll have an update with what to expect next. For now, for ALL your Wild Hearth needs, Loot Tavern has a Discord server and, if and when you have issues that need greater support, you can submit support requests within the Discord server. For other support routes, you can submit comments in the comment section (comments on this update stop being checked after about a week), email us at [email protected], or message direct to the Pointy Hat kickstarter account. But for real, for the quickest response, use Discord!

Thanks,

Max, Antonio, and the LT team

Update 5 - Unmystery Dice | Formula for Restaurants | Pentabook | Aprons!
20 days ago – Wed, Oct 14, 2026 at 05:30:23 PM

Holy moley! Who organised the stampede of backers over the last week? Is that you Skar? We have been CRUSHING stretch goals!!

Us desperately trying to keep up with all the stretch goals!

This update goes over adjustments to the mystery dice (we hear you, we hear you), the integration between A Formula for Seasons and Rest, Respite, & Restaurants, a NEW TIER, and the completely SMASHED stretch goals.

Mystery Dice & Unique Magical Meals

Okay, you guys were loud and clear: you want dice and you want meals and you hate anything being gatekept behind gambling. We have a solution! But before that, here’s a little background.

History. After the success of the Heliana Mystery Dice, many people (retail stores and convention booths) asked us to make more. We were initially planning to sell them on the webshop and to retail stores, but you guys blew through the stretch goals so fast that we thought it’d be a nice treat to offer them here (with a discount) before selling them anywhere else first.

Sounds like a delicious cereal name... Do not eat the dice.

Now. That being said, you guys have been telling us you want these, and we’ve decided that all playable content related to the campaign, which includes the unique monster meals, should be made available without the gacha system. Accordingly, we’ve put together some Crowdfunding-exclusive products. They’ll be available as addons on Kickstarter and Backerkit, but after that, they’ll never be available in this format again. So what are they?

  • A physical booster pack of the 14 unique monster meal tarot-sized cards (included in the All-in tier) - $7
  • A digital version of the booster pack of 14 cards - (included in Digital Deluxe and All-in tiers) - $3
  • All 14 dice sets, with a guarantee of no dupes, at a 30% discount to buying individual sets (not in any tier) - $197
  • One Mystery Dice set in the All-in tier.

This isn’t a stretch goal or anything. This is just us saying thank you and augmenting the tiers and add-ons to let you play the best game you can out there.

Formula for Restaurants

You folks were also VERY clear about wanting the Rest, Respite, & Restaurants to be folded into the A Formula for Seasons book.

Even now people are still letting us know.
Roll it in we shall!
We hear you!
Looking to vote in polls? Head to the Discord. Check out the Thread in #Wild-general, WH Update 4 Discussion and WH Update 5 Discussion

So, if we hit the $4M Stretch Goal, Formula for Seasons will contain the following:

  • Ocean voyage rules,
  • Fishing rules,
  • Magical fish to add to monster meals (with different species for each season),
  • Aquatic monsters,
  • Playable festivals for each season,
  • Monsters for each season,
  • Monster meals from those monsters,
  • A smattering of player options (although these may go into A Recipe for Heroes—we’re still working out what makes most sense with page count and theming),
  • A bevy of inns, restaurants, and spa locations (RRR),
  • Special House monster meals, specific rest boons, and unique services (RRR).

The PDF of Formula for Seasons goes to everyone who gets the PDFs of A Recipe for Heroes and A Blueprint for Adventure (which means everyone in the PDF+ tiers), and the physical book will be available in the Game Ready physical tiers and above. The add-on versions will be available on Backerkit.

And this leads us into something new…

The Pentabook Tier!

Many of you said you wanted a tier with ALL the books and NOTHING else. Thank you for being so vocal. Here’s the result: a new tier! This tier includes the digital (PDF) and physical (core cover) versions of the following books:

  • Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes
  • Wild Hearth: A Blueprint for Adventure
  • Wild Hearth: A Formula for Seasons
  • The Art of Wild Hearth
  • Cakewalk

It’s priced at $179, which is a saving of $233 compared to adding all the physical and digital components together (we’re estimating $55 for A Formula for Seasons… it’s getting chunky). Obviously, it includes all applicable unlocked stretch goals. We hope this is what you wanted!

Who's ready for ALL the book goodness?!

Note: If you're looking for the digital version, back the campaign at the PDF tier and add the extra book PDFs as add-ons.

Stretch Goals Unlocked

We’ve unlocked TWO stretch goals since our last update. Here’s a synopsis:

Wildrider - Ranger Subclass - $3.2M

Fulfil your fantasy of being Princess Mononoke on a giant wolf. Empower your pet to become your combat mount with this additional Ranger subclass. Included in Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes (RfH).

Pointy Hat Apron - $3.4M

Keep your kitchen fit fabulous with this one-size-fits-most, embroidered cotton apron. Included in the All-in tier and available as an add-on!

Next Stretch Goals

The next stretch goal is so close! We’re excited to welcome the Golem Species to your choices of playable species! Become the embodiment of a town’s will or a wizard’s latest experiment as a Golem construct!

Project We Love: Skellies

Do you dream of being a walking, talking skeleton, trying to impress the lich around whom you have some sort of love-hate, Stockholm syndrome, daddy-issues relationship? Well look no further than Skellies: an RPG of goofs, liches, and skeletal buffoonery.

After years making 5e content, shovelling out free material to the community, and being an all-round good guy, our friend Griff has made his own rules-lite RPG! This is the same Griff as of The Griffon’s Saddlebag, who’s delivered several successful Kickstarters and knows what he’s doing, so you’re in safe hands, both game-wise and delivery-wise. Check it out here!

That’s All Folks

For ALL your Wild Hearth needs, Loot Tavern has a Discord server and, if and when you have issues that need greater support, you can submit support requests within the Discord server. For other support routes, you can submit comments in the comment section (comments on this update stop being checked after about a week), email us at [email protected], or message direct to the Pointy Hat kickstarter account. But for real, for the quickest response, use Discord!

Thanks,

Max, Antonio, and the LT team

Update 4 - Kidnappings, Freebies, Seasons, and Mystery Dice
22 days ago – Mon, Oct 12, 2026 at 02:06:39 PM

Hey folks!

We are steaming along into week four of the campaign!

Pointy Hat's Human Familiar...

This update covers a freebie for EVERYONE, the stretch goals unlocked since the last update, and a new add-on (mystery dice)! First off a little update on the human familiar.

Antonio Got Kidnapped!...

…By his friends. While Pointy Hat was busy admiring themself in a mirror, the human familiar has been abducted and sent to an island to hang out with his friends for the weekend. Imagine that: taking a weekend off, what a revelation.

You might have noticed it’s been a while since the last update: Antonio’s had his hands busy reading comments, making YouTube videos, and writing not one, not two, but three books. Everyone at Loot Tavern, and all Antonio’s amigos, decided that that pace wasn’t sustainable, and his pals bought him a boat ticket to the middle of nowhere for some well earned R&R.

Future Updates. For the remainder of the campaign, we’re gonna keep the updates to stretch goals and product info. The design diaries (that you saw in the previous update about the Necromancer) will resume after the campaign concludes, and I (Max) will take over keeping you all updated weekly (or whenever we hit a big stretch goal/milestone). Antonio will be back to the updates in about a month!

FREE Pointy Hat Mini!

As a thank you for your fabulous support, we're giving everyone who backs the KS a FREE MINI of Pointy Hat and his human familiar!!! Add it to you altar of adulation, wear him as a good luck charm, or throw the hat and a bunch of d4s into your nemesis' bedroom while they sleep and await their cries when they stagger bleary-eyed to the bathroom.

A mini for you! A  mini for you! And a mini for you!

Okay, how does this work? If you have any physical item in your basket (literally any), you'll have the option to add the two minis to your order for $0—free—when we arrive on Backerkit, the pledge manager! If you don't have any physical rewards, don't fear, backers who have at least one digital reward selected will get the STL for both minis! Print it at home or send it to your favourite print-on-demand company if/when you decide you want it.

NOTE: To get this free you MUST be a backer of the Kickstarter campaign and have selected a physical/digital reward by the time it concludes.

Stretch Goals Unlocked

We’ve unlocked SIX stretch goals since our last update, here’s a synopsis:

Chirurgeon Necromancer Subclass - $2.25m

A new necromancer subclass based on healing has been added to Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes (RfH). We went over this in detail in the last update!

Oath of the Chevalier Paladin Subclass - $2.4m

An unstoppable force on the back of a celestial steed! This paladin subclass is all about trampling enemies and helping those in need. Just avoid immovable objects. Included in Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes (RfH).

Point Hat Pins! - $2.55m

A set of 3 pins including the magnetic mega pin that comes with interchangeable magnetised expressions, perfect for communicating your character’s in-game expression without interrupting the GM’s monologue! Included in the Deluxe and All-in tiers, and available as an add-on.

Kinfish Species - $2.7m

A new species added to Estival Festival! An aquatic race perfect for subverting your rivals’ attempts to win the fishing competition. Current plan is to include this in Estival Festival/Formula for Seasons, subject to change.

Hedge Mage - Wizard Subclass - $2.85

We’re excited to welcome the Hedgemage to the roster, a wizard subclass that specialises in rituals and playing with action economy. Current plan is to include this in Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes (RfH), subject to other bright ideas we may have.

A Formula for Seasons - $3.0m

We did it! Estival Festival evolves into A Formula for Seasons. We’re adding a plethora of playable and highly themed festivals, all based around the four seasons! But not just that: new player options, new monsters, new monster meals, the works! All of this in addition to everything previously described—fishing, sea monsters and ocean voyages.

This book is included in the Game-Ready and above tiers, and will be available as an addon once we move to Backerkit. That means you’ll be able to add it around 2 weeks after the Kickstarter concludes in the pledge manager

Next Stretch Goals

The next standard stretch goal is at $3.2m: the Wildrider Ranger! Turn your companion into a combat-focussed mount! Current plan is to include this in Wild Hearth: A Recipe for Heroes (RfH), subject to lightbulbs going off in our brain.

$4m: Rest, Respite, & Restaurants

A NEW booklet exploring a bevy of locations for rest, relaxation, and restoration. This book will include new inns with specific rest buffs, restaurants that serve monster meals, and other locations offering unique services to visit between adventures.

The current plan is to include this as a free PDF for everyone who gets A Recipe of Heroes and a Blueprint for Adventure PDFs (i.e. the PDF + tiers) and as a physical book for everyone in the Game-Ready+ tiers. We're still working on whether we'll do a softcover booklet or fold it into Formula for Seasons. Let us know your thoughts about the physical format in the comments below.

New Add-on: Mystery Dice!

Antonio thought that every creature type should have it's own dice so Loot Tavern is expanding its mystery dice range with the Pointy Hat Mystery Dice!

Picture, L-R: Plant, Construct, Celestial.

There are 14 sets of dice to collect, one for each of the monster types: Aberration, Beast, Celestial, Construct, Dragon, Elemental, Fey, Fiend, Giant, Humanoid, Monstrosity, Ooze, Plant, & Undead. Each set of these soft-edged dice comes with a unique monster meal card that has in-game statistics.

Kickstarter Multi-Buy Discount. To celebrate the launch of these dice, we're offering discounts for multibuys: 20% if you buy 5 sets, and 25% if you buy 10 sets. See the KS add-ons!

Note: These are blind boxes, each with an equal value. There's no way to guarantee you'll get one of each set.

Project We Love - Creatures Volume 4: Draconis, A Cozy Dragon Bestiary for 5E

I'll be honest, we don't know a lot about the contents of this book, but the art is beautiful and Studio Agate has won ENnies for it's other publications! A rising tide lifts all boats and we love to shine a light on what other creators are making. Go check it out and tell us what you think!

That's all for now!

Update 3 - Estival Festival! Necromancer Dive!
about 1 month ago – Wed, Sep 23, 2026 at 10:52:46 AM

We’re still cooking!

The team took a well-deserved break this weekend and has also been going over your comments and revising our stretch goal plans! This update goes over stretch goals, takes a dive into the Necromancer design, and looks at a KS by our friends at CzePeku!

Stretch Goals Unlocked - and Updated!

Since our last update, y’all have unlocked an additional Town Origin AND our second Pie in the Sky stretch goal! We also heard that you wanted more content in stretch goals; read on!

Eerie estates is available as a choice in the Core/Deluxe tiers, AND the papercraft print-at-home version is included in the Digital Deluxe tier.

The $1.75m goal was to allow you to build your own town based on a gothic horror vibe, perfect for a Curse of Strahd or Ravenloft game.

$2m - Pie in the Sky #2: Fishing Estival Festival!

We’ve actually added a bit more pie to the sky in this stretch goal since our last update. Not ONLY will this be bringing downtime fishing rules and magical fish for your monster meals, but we’ll also be adding updated travel rules for voyages at sea and some additional aquatic monsters.

Oh great! Another magikarp...

This publication, Estival Festival, will be given as a PDF for free to ALL backers who get the two Wild Hearth PDFs (A Recipe for Heroes and A Blueprint for Adventure). That means if you are in the PDF+ tiers OR you go just for addons but add both PDFs, you get this one for free.

Softcover Booklet. We’re also printing this! Yay! The ~60 page softcover booklet will be included in the Game-Ready+ tiers. Thanks for helping us reach this goal everyone!

$2.25m - New Necromancer Subclass: Chirurgeon

If we hit this stretch goal (soon!!), you’ll be able to steal from the Undead to give to the living! The Chirurgeon turns the Necromancer into a support superstar thanks to its thrall-come-walking-bag of Hit Points. More on this in the Necromancer Design Diary below.

$3m Pie in the Sky #3: Formula for Seasons

Celebrate the passing of the equinox (which was literally yesterday!) with festivals, monsters, monster meals, and player options centered around each of the four seasons! The festivals will be full of games and activities to fill your downtime with frivolity, prizes, and wonder.

If we hit $3m (wth!), the Estival Festival softcover book will evolve into Wild Hearth: A Formula for Seasons, a full hardcover expansion! Everything from Estival Festival—the fishing, sea voyages, and monsters—will still be there but it’ll be expanded to all four seasons. There’ll be so much more!

NOTE: We won't add the Estival Festival as an addon until we know if this stretch goal will be unlocked and modify that addon! Once someone adds an addon to their cart, we can't edit it!

Design Diary - Necromancer

I thought I’d bother y’all about some insights into the making of Wild Hearth, starting with my hyperfixation: the Necromancer. When designing anything Pointy Hat, I always go for fantasy first: What is the fantasy of playing whatever I’m making? When people think about playing something, what do they imagine it feeling like?

Current State. It was very clear to me that the School of Necromancy Wizard did not work for the necromancer fantasy. Not only was the action economy a mess, but the need to save all your spell slots to raise your undead army actively discouraged you from casting any spell, Necromancy or otherwise.

First Thoughts. I first thought of a flagellant; a character that inflicts damage to themselves and uses that damage as a resource. I knew quickly this wouldn’t work, first because the Blood Hunter, the most famous non-official D&D class, is already a flagellant, and second because “self-sacrificing” doesn’t make me think “Necromancer”. I still loved the idea of damage as a resource, and so the seed for the Wild Hearth Necromancer class was planted.

Design. Instead of inflicting damage to themselves, the Wild Hearth Necromancer hurts others, and uses that energy for undeathly purposes. This is much more in line with the fantasy of using the energy of death to enhance the effects of their spells and leads us to one of the main class features: Necromantic Formulae.

Necromantic Formulae. In our Necromancer class, when you cast a spell, you choose a 'necromantic formula' to apply to the spell. If the spell generates enough deathly energy (in other words, if it deals enough damage) the formula’s effects occur, potentially debilitating a target or empowering an ally. There’s more to it than that, and you can check out the Alpha version in our freebies, right here!

Overlord

The first subclass I ideated upon was the Overlord, for you simply cannot have a necromancer without having the option to summon an undead army. I knew that, to not fall into the same pitfalls as the vanilla necro, I needed the army-raising to not be dependent on spell slots and to not slow down the game by having to manage a lot of individual undead creatures' actions. This led to the concept of the thrall swarm, and the thrall concept then spread to every subclass and, eventually, to the main class.

The Overlord!

Medium

The Medium was always meant to be a “less gross”, more spiritual option; the “Lore Bard”, spellcasting-focused Necromancer. Its ability to learn spells from other class spell lists and to change its prepared spells more fluidly gives it much greater versatility in spellcasting than the other subclasses. The unique formula, Spirit Messenger, lets spirits from the beyond provide it with information about the foe it is targeting, helping the whole party adapt and formulate new tactics.

Blood Mage

Blood Mage was a very fun one to create. From years of consuming media featuring blood magic (AtlA’s bloodbending, Dragon Age) I had a very defined idea of its fantasy: a battlefield AND crowd controller, alongside being the party face. I wanted it to be sultry, alluring, deceitful—the anti-necromancer Necromancer. To represent that in the mechanics, the Blood Mage can change its appearance, it has access to additional Enchantment spells, and it has a plethora of control-focused subclass features.

The Blood Mage!

Homunculist

Homunculist is the mad scientist Necromancer. It offers more options to customize its thrall than any other subclass, from boney carapaces, to additional brains, to grafted wings. No two homunculist’s thralls are the same, partly because of the options at your disposal, and partly because you can incorporate parts of the foes you slay INTO your thrall!

Grim Knight

Grim Knight is the gish of the Necromancer class. It uses its thrall as its mount (I know, sick) and was designed to be the most survivable of the subclasses. Unlike all the other subclasses it can unleash formulae with its melee attacks, and its unique formula empowers its mount! The idea of a gish made sense from the beginning, since what is a Death Knight but a martial Lich? You can’t make a Necromancer without keeping in mind the lich, and death knights should not be forgotten either.

Chirurgeon

The chirurgeon (our $2.25m stretch goal) is the healer Necromancer. How does one heal with the power of death? Well, what if your thrall was… a martyr? A literal hit point bag? What if your other source of healing was vampiric, and you could heal off of your enemy? The thinking here is to make healing as exciting as going fully on the offensive.

There’s so much more to discuss: formulae, spells, thralls, other roles in battle, but we’re running out of time and I’ve got a lot on my plate to get to, so we’ll leave it here today. See you in a future update!

Project We Love: Crypts & Dungeons

If you’ve ever played anything by Loot Tavern before, you’ve probably played on one of the beautiful maps created by legendary dungeon cartographer’s guild CzePeku. This campaign is the next iteration in their super streamlined dungeon builder tool: Architect, which you can try for free right here!

Click to see CzePeku explain it in their own words!

Crypts & Dungeons gives you access to 250+ hand-drawn rooms (ALL made by humans!), ranging from Chimera Creation Forges and Jungle Temples to Medieval Jails and Pharaoh's Tombs. More than that, they are modular, allowing you to arrange them however you want, changing the flooring, lighting, and doors to suit your vibe... Backing the Kickstarter gives you lifetime access to this tool so don’t miss out, there’s only a week left!

For ALL your Wild Hearth needs, Loot Tavern has a Discord server and, if and when you have issues that need greater support, you can submit support requests within the Discord server. For other support routes, you can submit comments in the comment section, email us at [email protected] or messages direct to the Pointy Hat kickstarter account. But for real, for the quickest response, use Discord!

Thanks & happy cooking!
